![]() They use vastly, vastly more power than they seem to. Note that Death Rays have some sort of special wizardry going on. TL DR: You need a LOT more power and capacitor storage than the ship stats display would make you think, if you want to use beam weapons. This time the Phasor ship destroys the Disruptor ship. Set the two ships to fighting each other again. Now increase the number of reactors on the phasor ship until you're producing 4800 power per second (It should go without saying, but you're going to need to use Dark Matter Reactors here). The Disruptor ship will win 100% of the time, though the battle takes forever. Now set the two ships to attacking each other in the battle arena. Now take that design and swap all the phasors for (Much lower power using) disruptors. Build a human Titan with 30 phasors, 4800 capacitor, and 600 power generation, and a ton of shields. You need 4800 power generation per second. If you want this 30 phasor monster to actually reliably be able to fire all its beams at once. If you have 600 power generation, this is going to mean only a few of your phasors can fire at once, and they're probably going to cut off early when your capacitor gets completely drained. ![]() So basically if you have them all firing at once, your ship is using 4800 power per second. ![]() More to the point, during the 5 seconds where the phasors are actually on, they're burning 160 power per second each. Now you start to see the problem you're going to have if you build the ship to just have the 600 power generation per second that the ship stats indicate you need. Therefore the true average power draw per second of our 30 phasor design is THREE THOUSAND. Which means the ACTUAL average power draw of a rapid fire phasor is 800/8=100, NOT 20. This means that in actuality, they use 160*5= 800 power every time they're fired. See, phasors, being a beam weapon, have about a 5 second firing time, during which they use their firing cost every second. ![]() Thus 30 phasors use 30*20 or 600 power per second." Therefore it uses 160 power every 8 seconds, or 160/8 = 20 power per second. See, the game is looking at the phasor's stats and saying "Ok, it uses 160 power per shot, and has an 8 second cooldown (Because we put the rapid fire mod on them of course). So we just need 600 power generation and 4800 power storage right? That way all our phasors can fire at once, and we're matching our average power draw per second so we should never run out right? Right? So we quickly do the math, and note that 30 * 160 = 4800. So you think, "Ok, I just need to have enough reactors to make more than 600 power per second and I'm golden", but no.įirst of all, we're smart enough to realize that we need more than 600 power storage from capacitors, since each phasor takes 160 power to fire. The "ship stats" will show you an average power drain of 600 per second for this. ![]() Now, lets say we want to make a phasor gunship. OK, really they don't lie, but they're very misleading, and I want to get the point across simply. I did some experimentation in the Battle Arena, and discovered some bits of info that might help people out with these.įirst: The ship designer stats LIE about beam weapons. ![]()
